At the Thomas Telford UTC our curriculum is different to other schools and traditional types of learning. Students can choose from one of our programme pathways in Design, Build or Innovate. This will team academic subjects with practical learning, and core subjects alongside a small number of optional subjects up to GCSE or A Level equivalent.

Training today for the innovators of the future
Our Innovate programme includes Level 2 or 3 Digital TechBacs alongside GCSEs and A-levels in ICT and Business, will prepare students for careers in Business Information Modelling (BIM) engineering, software development and IT engineering and management in the built environment.You will use state-of-the-art design technologies such as the augmented reality devices in our Innovation Lab to visualise built environment plans in novel ways. You will develop your programming skills using the Nao robots. You will extend your interaction with the built environment, developing smart technologies in our Maker Space using the Raspberry Pi and Arduino platforms.
Our Build programme includes a Level 2 or 3 TechBac in Construction and the Built Environment (C&BE) alongside supporting GCSEs and A-levels such as Maths, Physics, Geography or Business Studies. The Build programme will prepare students for careers in surveying, civil engineering and site and project management.
You will study the build processes through a series of construction projects using industry standard facilities on our purpose-built construction park. In the Ecohouse project, you will use a variety of materials and experience a variety of construction techniques when you build a small, one-storey home. You will combine your TechBac with qualifications in Geography, Maths and/or Physics to focus on the processes and careers involved in the build phase of a construction project. You will take on the role of structural engineers in one of your projects by planning, building and testing different bridges to determine their various properties.
Our Design programme includes GCSEs and A-levels in Art & Design: 3D Design – Architecture and Interior Design in addition to a Level 2 or 3 TechBac in Construction and the Built Environment (C&BE). This programme will prepare students for careers in architecture, interior design, planning and other design careers in C&BE.
You will learn the fundamentals of architecture and interior design in our purpose-built design studios. These will be resourced with a mix of traditional drawing and model-making facilities and the most up-to-date Computer Aided Design (CAD) / Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) resources including full colour 3D printers.You will build your skills in Autodesk Revit – industry standard design software. You will see your designs become reality as we build scale models.
